We Have No Such Custom!
Ephesians 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Christians should make every effort they can to keep peaceful unity. Because believers have the Holy Spirit, this shouldn't be a hard thing to do.
However, it's a fact of the ministry, that some people come to the church-house for 1 reason: to be difficult.
This is why the Holy Spirit led Paul to write:
1 Corinthians 11:16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
Contentious people are consumed with themselves. Although they may initially come across with a sweet attitude, ultimately they are looking to create a problem. A contentious person enjoys the drama.
A good place to start when a problem arises, is to draw out the camera lens and look at the church-family at large. When the group picture is considered, rather than an individual, this tends to be a first good step in: Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Whether you're a church leader or church member, if someone shows up looking to cause a disturbance, or be contentious or mess up the bond of peace, consider responding to them with the following phrase:
"We have no such custom!"
