Thou shalt not kill
Matthew 5:21-22 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Raca is a term of reproach and contempt. It's used to insult someone by calling them a silly or stupid name.
Jesus knew people were deceived concerning the spirit behind killing. He especially knew that the scribes and Pharisees only understood the law as "thou shalt not kill." They didn’t understand that killing proceeds from the heart.
It's why in Matthew 15:19, Jesus said: For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders…
The point is: If someone is willing to dish-out a severe tongue lashing, what will stop them from lashing out with physical violence?
To bring additional light to the situation, Jesus points out the sin of violating the spirit of "thou shalt not kill", and exposes the filthy corruption of man's heart!
Matthew 12:35-36 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
