Take a knee AND a stand!
Having humility does not mean taking a knee in prayer, at the expense of taking a stand for truth.
The Bible clearly teaches BOTH.
Christians should take a knee in prayer, as well as a stand for truth. Notice, Paul's humility is directly related to his willingness to take a stand, by going public with the message of repentance and faith.
Acts 20:19-21 Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house, Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Those who refuse to take a public a stand with the gospel, by claiming it isn't humble, are really displaying a false humility that isn't rooted in biblical truth or practice.
The Bible describes the spiritual battle Christians are in. We are told 4 times to take a stand in Ephesians 6:11-17
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Ephesians 6 commands Christians to do the following:
- STAND against the wiles of the devil
- STAND against evil
- STAND our ground.
- STAND for truth, righteousness, the saving gospel, and the word of God!
Ephesians 6:18-20 goes on to describe the absolute importance of prayer in the Christian life, as related to the spiritual battle we are in.
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
However, also notice the passage ends with the following biblical charge to take a stand in the following ways:
- OPEN our mouths boldly
- MAKE KNOWN the gospel
- SPEAK boldly, as we ought to speak.
Someone is being taught false-humility if they are told to only take a knee for prayer, at the expense of taking a stand for truth in the public arena.
Christians must awake out of sleep and realize that it's NOT prideful for Christians to open their mouths boldly with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Rather, it's a clear command God gave His church. Any church that teaches otherwise is wrong.
False humility is trying to look spiritual, by going against what God said. Simply put: false humility is pride!
We need some bold, praying Christians who will take a stand for truth. If someone can't take a public stand because of age or health related issues, then those Christians should be boldly praying for those who can.
We must have both: bold praying and bold standing!
The main problem the church faces today isn't the world, it's the carnal churches that have lulled their people to sleep with false-humility.
Our country needs churches that will encourage their flock to take a knee AND a stand.
