Don't be a wise guy!
The Italian-American Mafia was formed in 1931 in New York.
They would recruit 16-17 year-old, young men who had no direction in life. Their objective, was to turn them into wise guys. A wise guy was a glorified smark-aleck!
The recruitment process was purposefully designed to mislead these young men by giving them nice clothes, money, girls, Cadillacs, a sense of belonging and the thrill of living life fast!
These mob-bosses taught them how to walk in a room with a strong attitude of self-confidence. Everyone was supposed to know they were now a good fella (aka: mafia gangster).
When they were 1st recruited, murder was never on the menu of what they would be asked to do.
Instead, they were 1st groomed on how to dress, how to tip good at a restaurant, how to carry themselves...and most importantly how to obey 'the boss'!
However, it wasn't long before they found themselves quickly obeying other commands like: go buy a shovel, an ice pick and some duct tape.
This unclean lifestyle eventually led these young wise guys to pull the trigger and commit their first murder.
The lesson is this:
Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.
Never allow yourself or your children to be groomed by ungodly men. You never know how far that unclean lifestyle will take you.
Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Finally, the importance of having young men taught by their father cannot be overstated. There's nothing worse than a grown man who can be everything to everybody...except a father to his own children.
