Called to Move, or Just Ready to Leave?

Called to Move, or Just Ready to Leave?

For some families, a question eventually surfaces that they never saw coming — whether God might be calling them to pull up roots and relocate for the sake of finding a faithful church.

It is a question worth taking seriously, because the stakes on both sides are real.

Relocation for the church is not outside the will of God. It has happened throughout church history, and it still happens today. But it is never the answer to dissatisfaction, frustration, or weariness. A new zip code does not solve what only grace and patience can.

The families who relocate rightly share something in common: they are not fleeing a hard situation — they are following a clear calling. Their decision is shaped by conviction, not excitement. By stewardship, not escape.

If that distinction is unclear, slow down. Talk to your pastor. Seek counsel from people who know you well, who will tell you what you need to hear rather than what you want to hear. Relocation can be an act of genuine faith — but it can also be a well-dressed form of restlessness. Those two things can feel identical from the inside, and that is precisely why this decision cannot rest on your own reading of your own heart.
