You're Living a False Opposition

My son loves horses, and I'll tell you, I don't know a horseman alive who just spends time with his horse. He's always dumping money into that thing. That's what horses cost you. Everybody understands that. Nobody argues with it.

But somehow we don't apply that same common sense to our walk with God.

Some folks love their farm animals more than they love their church. How do I know that? They won't give. And I'm not just talking about money — I'm talking about time. What are you actually spending on the things you say you love? A lot of us are living what I'd call a false opposition. We say one thing with our mouth and live a completely different thing with our calendar and our checkbook.

"I love my church family, but I'm never around when they need me." "I love my wife, but I never buy her anything." "I love the Lord's house, but the game was on."

The religious leaders in John 5 did the exact same thing. They claimed to believe Moses, but they wouldn't believe the very Christ Moses wrote about. Jesus called it out plainly: "For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me, for he wrote of me" (John 5:46). They had the letter, but they didn't have the love. Head knowledge without a surrendered will.

So don't ask yourself what you believe. Ask yourself what you're willing to spend on it. That's usually where the truth is hiding.
