You Love What You Obey
Ask most church folks who their master is, and they’ll say Jesus. They mean it.
Paul gave a different test in Romans 6:16: “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”
Your master is who you obey. You can say you love the Lord when you haven’t obeyed Him in three months, but you love what you obey.
Being in church on Sunday doesn’t settle it either. I’m glad you’re there. But look at Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Where does your heart go back to when nobody’s watching?
The sins that make the evening news usually aren’t the problem. It’s impatience, bitterness, worry, the sharp word to the children. We say, “Well, that’s just how I am.” We keep it in check at church and let it out at home. We won’t call it a master, because then we’d have to quit it.
If you don’t know what yours is, ask your spouse on the way home. Ask your grown kids this weekend. Your feelings won’t tell you, because they always side with you.
You can’t fix it, and neither can I. Bring it to the Son. John 8:36: “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
The full message from John 8 is below. Come hear what it means to be free indeed.
