You Don't Want a Savior. You Want a Sandwich.
A crowd crossed a whole sea one morning looking for Jesus. They rowed themselves over, found Him on the other side, and asked a real polite question: "Rabbi, when camest thou hither?" (John 6:25).
Jesus didn't even try to answer the question. He went straight for the heart. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled" (John 6:26).
They didn't want the Bread of Life. They wanted bread.
I know what it's like to be in that crowd. I've prayed prayers that were really just requests with "Lord" stapled on the front of them. Called it seeking God when it was really seeking relief.
Ask yourself something uncomfortable. Does your love for Jesus rise and fall with what He's been doing for you lately? Do you get more shaken up over a missed meal than a missed prayer time? More irritable after a day without your comforts than after a week without your Bible?
If so, you don't want the Master. You want what the Master's got.
Jesus said it as plain as day: "Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you" (John 6:27). He isn't stingy with blessing. He fed five thousand the day before He ever said this. But He didn't come to be your vending machine. He came to be your Lord.
Stop chasing loaves. Chase the Lord.
