You Can Be Right About Jesus and Still Be Lost
The crowd in John 7 heard one sermon and went away in different places. Some said, "Of a truth this is the Prophet" (John 7:40). They remembered Moses' promise in Deuteronomy 18, and they were right to put Jesus in that category. They were amazed, but not changed.
That group didn't die in 32 AD. They're sitting in churches today. Jesus is in the good teacher folder, or the good example folder, or the historical figure folder, and that's where He stays. It's precise enough to sound informed about the Bible and vague enough that they never have to decide anything. Right category, wrong conclusion.
Others said, "This is the Christ" (John 7:41). They went all the way. A partial confession is safe. A full confession is dangerous, and it was dangerous then, and it's dangerous today.
Have you trusted Jesus Christ? Have you moved from Jesus as a great man to Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah? That's a different thing, and a genuine confession always costs a believer something.
Don't leave Jesus in the folder. Hear the full message from John 7 and what happens when the officers meet Him:
