What's Your Sacrifice for Sin?

What's Your Sacrifice for Sin?

The Most Important Question You'll Ever Answer

When you stand before God, what will be your sacrifice for sin? Your good works? Your church attendance? Your moral lifestyle?

Here's the sobering truth: None of these will save you.

Everyone Has Their Own "Sacrifice"

Most people aren't hardened criminals - they come from good families where dad works hard, provides well, and lives morally. However, when asked about their sacrifice for sin, they point to their own goodness, their moral character, or their personal efforts.

But Scripture declares in Hebrews 10:26: "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins."

There's only one acceptable sacrifice - and it's not yours.

Why Your Good Works Can't Save You

God presumes you guilty. No matter how successful your life, how loving your family, or how moral your choices - you've sinned against a holy God. Hebrews 10:31 warns: "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."

The Roman Catholic system offers purgatory, penance, and indulgences - all forms of human suffering to "earn" forgiveness. But Hebrews 10:2 reveals that if these worked, "would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sin."

Your sin debt is too great. Your righteousness too small.

Christ: The Perfect and Final Sacrifice

Hebrews 9:12 declares that Christ "by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."

Unlike repeated Old Testament sacrifices, Christ's sacrifice was once for all. Hebrews 10:10: "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."

What Makes Christ's Sacrifice Perfect?

  • Complete: "But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God" (Hebrews 10:12)
  • Cleansing: "How much more shall the blood of Christ... purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God" (Hebrews 9:14)
  • Essential: "And without shedding of blood is no remission" (Hebrews 9:22)

Faith, Not Works

Hebrews 11:6 makes it clear: "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

You can't touch Jesus physically, but by faith you can trust Him completely. He will save your soul that you cannot see through the sacrifice you cannot earn.

Your Only Hope

The blood of Jesus Christ is your only acceptable sacrifice for sin. Not purgatory. Not good works. Not religious rituals. Christ alone, by faith alone, through grace alone.

Hebrews 9:15: Christ "is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance."

What Will You Choose?

So answer honestly: What's going to be your sacrifice for sin?

If it's anything other than the blood of Jesus Christ, you'll die in your sins and spend eternity in hell. But if you'll trust Christ as your only sacrifice, you can have forgiveness, peace with God, and eternal life.

The choice is yours. But choose quickly - tomorrow may be too late.
