The sunk cost
The sunk cost is money poured into a project or business that cannot be recovered.
Sunk costs are only relevant when looking at past spending, as they rarely affect future spending.
Although, sunk costs can and do offer businesses many new features, benefits and opportunities for their customers. Sometimes, the sunk cost turns out to be a big failure and set back for a business.
When this is a case, it doesn't do the business any good to dwell on this mistake. It's over, it's done, you cannot get the money back.
In like manner, many Christians get hung up on their past, and all the awful sins they've committed.
It is true that prior to the new birth experience, our lives could be summed up with the same 6 words: I was sinking deep in sin!
Our past sin sure has sunk us. However, it does no good to dwell on it. The Christian must focus on the great love of Jesus that has LIFTED US above our wicked and depraved state.
Without Jesus, our lives are one sunk cost of sin after another.
Without Jesus, we're building on sinking sand.
Without Jesus, our life becomes a building project with so many sunk costs, that it's impossible for us to recover from it on our own.
But praise God, for the great love of Jesus. His saving power is able to rescue us from the sinking ship and put us in the Lifeboat.
If you've been saved by Jesus, why dwell on your past sin. It's done, it's over, it covered by the blood.
No Christian is sunk. We're only lifted, by the great love of Christ.
Remember, if you've not been saved, you are sinking deep in. Why not be saved today and be part of the crowd that can sing: Love Lifted Me!
Love Lifted Me
I was sinking deep in sin, Far from the peaceful shore,
Very deeply stained within, Sinking to rise no more;
But the Master of the sea, Heard my despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me, Now safe am I.
Chorus: Love lifted me! Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help, Love lifted me.
Love lifted me! Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help, Love lifted me.
All my heart to Him I give, Ever to Him I’ll cling,
In His blessed presence live, Ever His praises sing.
Love so mighty and so true, Merits my soul’s best songs;
Faithful, loving service, too, To Him belongs.
Souls in danger, look above, Jesus completely saves;
He will lift you by His love, Out of the angry waves.
He’s the Master of the sea, Billows His will obey;
He your Savior wants to be—Be saved today.
