The Precious Bible
--author unknown
Though the cover is worn
And the pages are torn
And though places bear traces of tears,
Yet more precious than gold
Is the book worn and old,
That can shatter and scatter my fears.
When I prayerfully look
In the precious old book
Many pleasures and treasures I see;
Many tokens of love
From the Father above,
Who is nearest and dearest to me.
This old book is my guide
'Tis a friend by my side,
It will lighten and brighten my way,
And each promise I find
Soothes and gladens my mind
As I read it and heed it each day.
Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
In the Old Testament, when the children of Israel were in the wilderness, God provided manna for them every day. It was up to them to trust God and pick it up and eat it that day. If not, it would spoil by morning.
Likewise, if you just pick up the word of God and let it sit on your desk till morning, you've failed to eat your daily bread.
The problem with most American's is their poor diet. They are spiritually malnourished. They fill their hearts and minds with the junk food of: news media, political talk, sports commentary, and social media scrolling.
Most people are willfully starving themselves from the daily spiritual nutrition they need. Yet, God is still ready to provide us our daily bread. Will you trust Him enough to pick it up and eat?
...man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
