The preacher must study
A dedicated scientist could end up in a 10-year research project, that has one single focus.
Some professional athletes practice 1-part of their game for an entire season, in an attempt to improve their overall performance.
A good writer might study a topic for 2 years before completing their book.
Likewise, a preacher may spend hours meditating upon, studying, cross-referencing, and praying about 1 verse of the bible.
This is all done in an attempt to understand the text properly, in its proper context. A good preacher will dive deep to know the mind of God more, to be able to communicate acceptable words of truth.
The secular world calls this dedication and professionalism. God calls it STUDY! And if the secular world can dedicate itself to research, practice and study, how much more should the preacher get to work to master his craft?
Ecclesiastes 12:9-12 And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth. The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd. And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
