The Pharisees Went Home and Had Supper
John 7 ends with a weird line: "And every man went unto his own house" (John 7:53). Meeting adjourned.
These men had just silenced Nicodemus, one of their own, for asking a fair question. They told him no prophet comes out of Galilee, when their own Scriptures had Jonah, a prophet from Galilee. They did it in front of witnesses. Then they went home and had supper. No guilt. No sleepless night. No conscience saying, "I've got some stuff to think about."
That's how people treat the Word of God. They hear the truth, and it's just another day. Let's eat. Let's go to bed. Who cares?
Judicial blindness in its full maturity isn't dramatic evil. It's casual. People get to where they don't even feel the weight of it. The Word of God wasn't important to those men. Control was.
Nicodemus opened a book they had already closed, and he found what was in it.
Have you ever heard the Word of God plainly and gone home and had supper like nothing happened?
Don't just go home and have supper on it. Hear the full message from John 7 and what Nicodemus found when he opened the book:
