The Most Dangerous Thing You Can Do With the Word Is Discuss It

The Pharisees sent officers to arrest Jesus, and the officers came back empty-handed. Asked why, they said, "Never man spake like this man" (John 7:46). These were men who knew how to handle a crowd, and Jesus' words arrested them before they could lay a hand on Him.

Meanwhile the Pharisees were quoting Him word for word. In verse 36 they repeat His warning to each other: "What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?" They debated it. They talked it over in committee. Nobody in the room said, "Fellas, maybe we ought to seek Him now."

Discussing the Word and debating the Word, rather than believing it, is the most dangerous thing a man or woman can do with it.

Church people can end up in the same place. You can know your Bible cover to cover, memorize the verses, and never miss a service, and still be stuck in John 7, talking about what God has already told you to do.

Parents, you're helping your children memorize Scripture. Good. Are you obeying it yourselves? Young people, are you doing what the verses you memorize say?

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves" (James 1:22).

Whatever the Lord has already laid in front of you, don't call another meeting about it. Go do it.
