The Holy Spirit Isn't Your Life Coach

The Holy Spirit Isn't Your Life Coach

Somewhere along the way, we started treating the Holy Spirit like a divine GPS—punch in what we want, wait for turn-by-turn directions to our dreams.

But the Holy Spirit is not here to help you accomplish your agenda. He's here to conform you to Christ's image, and sometimes that means frustrating your plans entirely.

I've watched believers agonize over "what the Spirit is telling them" about job offers, house purchases, vacation plans—things Scripture already gives us wisdom to handle. Meanwhile, they'll ignore His clear conviction about their sharp tongue, their entertainment choices, their treatment of their spouse.

The Holy Spirit's primary work isn't giving you insider information about decisions. It's primary work is producing fruit—love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. It's revealing Christ. It's making you holy.

Yes, He guides. Yes, He leads. But if you're only listening for directions and deaf to His conviction, you've misunderstood His ministry in your life.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is make a wise decision with the Bible and godly counsel, then trust God with the outcome. The Spirit isn't playing hide-and-seek with God's will. He's conforming you to it.
