The Father Never Left Jesus Alone, Except Once
In John 8:29 Jesus says, “And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.”
Notice the word “always.” On our best days we manage part of the day. Jesus pleased the Father every moment, and the Father never left Him alone. That fellowship didn’t begin in the temple, either. Seven hundred years earlier, Isaiah 42:1 had the Father calling Him “mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth.”
If John 8:29 were all we had, we’d be left alone forever, because none of us can say we always please the Father.
Look at Psalm 22:1. “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” There was one exception. For a time the Father turned His face away, and the sin of the world was laid on the Son. John 8:29 is the rule, and Psalm 22 is the price that was paid to make the rule real for you.
The desolation was real, but it didn’t last. Verse 24 says, “neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.”
If you are in Christ, that is why the Father will never leave you alone.
There was one time the Father turned away, and it was for us. Listen to the complete message here:
