Stop Waiting for Your Kids to "Get It"

Stop Waiting for Your Kids to "Get It"

If you're the Christian parent who says: "I'm just waiting for my child to get saved" or "I'm hoping they'll eventually understand the gospel."

Brother, sister—remember this: faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). Noone receives salvation by osmosis. And your kids won't "accidentally" stumble into a relationship with Christ while you're waiting around for them to "get it."

Look, it's important to wait on the Lord. It's important to offer up your child's salvation in fervent prayer to God. It's important for them to faithfully attend a good Bible-believing, local church.

But it's also important to remember–you're the parent! God put you in authority over your children for a reason. Do you wait for them to get hungry, or do you put food on the table? Do you wait for them to feel like learning or doing school, or do you teach and train them? So, why would their spiritual life be any different?

Train up a child in the way he should go (Proverbs 22:6). The word "train" is active. It's intentional. It's daily. It's deliberate.

Open that Bible and teach them. Get down on your knees and pray with them. Let them hear you cry out to God. Show them what true repentance looks like when you mess up. Let them see you submit to Scripture even when it's hard. And most importantly, share the gospel with them.

Don't wait for a feeling or the perfect moment. Don't count on the preacher or the Sunday School teacher. It's time for you to preach it to them. Right now. Today. This morning.

It's ok to prepare your child for their future spiritual life--but not if you're not training them to walk with God NOW!

The time is always NOW.

2 Corinthians 6:2 ...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
