Stop Building Your Name - Start Serving His

The Paul Secret Every Christian Should Know - You're Chasing the Wrong Things

Every year, there's a new Super Bowl champion. Every decade brings a new heavyweight champion. The Forbes richest list constantly changes. Names come and go - but servants remain.

When the Apostle Paul introduced himself in Romans 1:1, he could have led with his impressive credentials - former Pharisee, dramatic conversion story, church planter extraordinaire. Instead, he chose four simple words that changed everything:

"Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God" (Romans 1:1).

Notice the order. Servant first. Apostle second.

The Unifying Power of Servanthood

Here's what Paul understood that we often miss: names separate us, but servanthood unites us.

How are you going to sit down for lunch with the richest man in the world? How are you going to connect with Super Bowl champions? Different statuses create barriers.

But you know what unites every believer? We're all servants of Jesus Christ.

That's the umbrella we all gather under. If the floor needs vacuuming, we'll do it - why? Because we want to serve Jesus. If gospel tracts need handing out, we'll do it - why? Because we want to serve Jesus.

The Gospel That Changes Everything

Paul was "separated unto the gospel of God" (Romans 1:1). Not politics, not social reform, not building his personal platform. The gospel - because that's what saves souls.

This isn't Paul's good news - it's God's good news. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son" (John 3:16).

Your debt to your town is simple: nobody should come into your community without hearing about Jesus Christ because somebody from your church told them. Whether at lunch, walking through the neighborhood, at work, or during a chance encounter.

Find yourself a heathen this week and tell them about Jesus.

Jesus Christ Our Lord - The Complete Picture

Romans 1:3-4 reveals the full picture: "Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead."

Three essential truths:

Jesus - The Savior who came to "save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21) Christ - The anointed Messiah, the only way to life Lord - The highest authority

People will accept Jesus as Savior, but they don't want Him as Lord. Is He your Lord? If so, where is He in your life? First place? Prove it.

What attracts your heart? What you watch, listen to, spend money on? Where are you laying up treasure - eternal things or earthly things that will pass away?

The Resurrection Power That Proves Everything

The gospel isn't just about a good teacher or moral example. The resurrection makes it good news. There is no gospel without resurrection.

"Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

He didn't need oxygen, didn't need medical intervention - He's God. When He was ready, He came up from the grave.

Your Simple Gospel Presentation

Don't know where to start witnessing? Go to 1 Corinthians 15. Tell them Christ died for sins, was buried, rose again, and appeared to over 500 witnesses.

That's 513 eyewitnesses. You're going to believe the news media over that?

The Heart of the Matter

Stop worrying about your name and reputation. Worry about being a servant for the Lord.

Don't live to be remembered for your name - live for His name's sake. Take the lowest place in proper position to the highest One.

If you don't compel people to think about spiritual matters, who will? The college professor? Your boss? This entertainment-focused church culture?

Hearts and souls are at stake. Find yourself a heathen this week and tell them about Jesus Christ.
