Spiritual Mapping

Spiritual Mapping

Spiritual mapping is a heretical practice associated with the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) and some other charismatic groups. They teach spiritual mapping as a form of spiritual warfare that involves researching and identifying supposed demonic influences over specific geographic areas.

Because groups that are involved in this, believe that demons are controlling or influencing a particular area, they attribute the social problems of that area to these demons.

After they've researched an area and gathered enough "spiritual information", they will then try to identify the specific "demons" or "spiritually oppressive forces" in that area.

Based on this supposed information, they will then begin to try to "break" the demonic influence through "spiritual warfare". This includes "prayer walks", where they will walk through an area praying against the identified spiritual strongholds.

If you've ever seen "deliverance preachers" out on the street, in the public arena, chances are they are involved in spiritual mapping.

Although the Bible does talk about the spiritual battle Christians are in, nowhere in the Bible do we see the concept of spiritual mapping being taught. The reason being is, spiritual mapping is an unbiblical, new age superstition, that distracts true Christians from the proclamation of the gospel to "every creature".

Spiritual mapping downplays individual responsibility for sin, as well as each individual's need to REPENT and trust Jesus Christ as the only Saviour.

By misplacing a believers' authority in Christ, and oversimplifying complex social issues, spiritual mapping leads to an unbiblical view of how God desires his people to be engaged in spiritual warfare.

Be warned: these apostolic, new-age ministries, based on superstition, and not the bible are growing and are very dangerous.

1 Corinthians 2:1-4 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

Make no mistake about it, being delivered from the power of sin, cannot be found in a "formula" or a "spiritual map". It lies only in the magnificent, glorious power of the gospel alone.

1 Corinthians 1:18-21 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
