Ship wreckers
1 Timothy 1:19-20 ...some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
Many have a good start, but a bad ending. Hence, the Bible's warning to not make shipwreck.
Remember, a ship without an anchor will drift into despair.
Hymenaeus and Alexander started off good, but they ended up finishing as ship wreckers.
Also notice, the Bible makes it very clear that it is OK to name names. The purpose of the Holy Spirit naming Hymenaeus and Alexander was, so they would LEARN not to blaspheme, which should serve as a warning and lesson for all of us.
Finally, remember that Satan has no power over the church. The church is fully protected by God, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.
Individually, Satan can tempt us. But Satan has NO power over Christ's church.
Church members, and pastors, alike MUST have enough bible knowledge to guard against ship wreckers like Hymenaeus and Alexander.
There will come a point in your Christian life when you will have to deal with ship wreckers. When this happens, the prayer should be that they are humbled, repentant and brought back into loving fellowship.
Remember, the Lord Jesus Christ can repair the shipwreck.
