Prove God vs Trust God
The Problem with Proving God
Many Christians spend years trying to prove God's existence through debates, evidence, and arguments with unbelievers. But here's a truth to consider: we don't conclude God, we start with God.
When we allow unbelievers to put God on trial, demanding proof before faith, we've already lost the battle. Romans 1:21 reveals why: "Because that when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened."
The reality? Unbelievers already know God exists. They're not looking for proof—they're holding the truth in unrighteousness.
What We Must Declare Instead
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 shows us the Christian's duty: "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you... how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures."
Notice the word "declare"—we don't prove the gospel; we declare it.
As Christians, we must declare three things:
- The Gospel - Christ's death and resurrection for our sins
- His Righteousness - God's standard, not human comparison
- His Glory - Psalm 19:1: "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork"
Why God is Your Starting Point
Proverbs 1:7 establishes the foundation: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction."
Here's the logical reality: If you want to know anything at all, you would have to know everything. The problem is: we don't know everything. We don't have unlimited knowledge. So, for us to know anything, it would require someone who knows everything to reveal truth to us. That Someone is God!
Proverbs 3:5-6 gives us the blueprint: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
How to Witness God's Truth
When sharing your faith:
Ask the right question: "Do you consider yourself a good person?"
Most people say yes because Proverbs 20:6 tells us: "Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness."
Bring them to God's standard: Use Scripture to show God's righteousness. Don't let them put God on trial—declare His truth.
Remember: Romans 1:18-19 says "the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them."
They know God exists. They just don't want to glorify Him.
Live with Eternal Perspective
1 Timothy 6:7 reminds us: "For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out."
Why live for temporal things when eternity matters? Philippians 4:11 teaches contentment: "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."
Your Christian Duty
Jude 1:3 commands us to "earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints."
This means:
- Declaring God's Word regardless of comfort
- Living with eternal perspective
- Fearing God above man's opinion
- Being gentle but firm: 2 Timothy 2:24-25 - "And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves"
The Bottom Line
Stop trying to conclude God through human reasoning. Isaiah 1:18 says: "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord."
God is the foundation of all reasoning, all knowledge, all truth. When you start with God instead of trying to prove Him, everything changes.
