Patience in Christian Fellowship
In our walk with Christ, patience is not only essential—it's also challenging. The relationships we build within the body of believers often test this fruit of the Spirit to its limits. We come together as imperfect people. We all have our own struggles, weaknesses, and areas we need growth in.
There will come a time when a brother or sister in Christ disappoints you. Conflict within a group of believers is inevitable. However, the Bible calls us to a higher standard than the world's quick judgments and hasty reactions. True Christian fellowship requires us to bear with one another in love, to extend the same grace that has been abundantly poured out for us.
Ephesians 4:3 says: Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
This unity isn't maintained through perfection, but through patient forbearance with one another's faults. It's an endeavor!
Colossians 3:12-13 says: Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Christian growth rarely occurs through harsh judgment. We must remember to practice "longsuffering" with our Christian church-family. As we do this, we'll reflect Christ's own patience with us. When a local church inculcates a patient, forbearing, forgiving, and loving endurance, genuine growth happens.
May we all grow in this grace-filled patience, remembering always that we too are works in progress, dependent entirely on the patience and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
