Make America Born Again
I'm grateful for this nation. Grateful for freedom, for provision, for the military that protects our families. None of that is lost on me.
But being grateful for your country and confusing the church's mission — those aren't the same thing. No political party is an arm of the church. And the church is not an earthly kingdom — she's a spiritual one. Her King doesn't live in Washington.
"Make America Great Again" is a political slogan. "Ye must be born again" is a command from God.
A better economy is a blessing. But no economy ever saved a soul. America doesn't need a better economy — she needs a new heart.
And before we quote 2 Chronicles 7:14 at a political rally — "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven" — we should remember who God was talking to. That was a covenant promise to Israel. Not to America. The United States has never stood in that covenant relationship with God, no matter how many times it gets printed on a yard sign.
The mission of the church was never to make a nation wealthy, healthy, or powerful. It was to preach the gospel — and let God be God.
That's still the word. That's still the work.
Now let's make America born again.
