Long-winded preaching
In today's world of short attention spans and habits of internet scrolling that involve bing watching YouTube "shorts", it's become increasing more difficult for Christians to prioritize listening to preaching.
A 40-second "short" is a lot easier to get through, than a 40-minute sermon.
But the problem isn't always the short-attention spans of the people. Sometimes, it's the long-winded rambling of the preacher. A poor week of preparation will surely evidence this.
If the preacher hasn't dedicated himself to the intense study of the word of God and fervent prayer throughout the week, he has no business complaining about bored listeners.
Many times, the difference between a long-winded, boring sermon and a sermon that fills hearts with conviction, is about 5 hours of study!
Let's face it, preachers can bore their listeners, making their sermons "feel" too long. There is a fine line between a long-sermon and a hostage situation!
Pray, study, and prepare the meat of the word. Then preach what God puts on your heart, and be done!
Acts 20:9-10 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
