Homeschooling Isn't About Being Perfect
No parent goes into homeschooling thinking they are the perfect teacher. However, parents should consider homeschooling because they are the perfect parent for their child–God gave your children to YOU, not to the state.
Homeschooling may intimidate some parents. They think their kids need certified teachers and government-approved curriculum. The truth is: you've been teaching your children since they were born. You taught them to crawl, walk, talk, eat, and behave. You can teach 'em "reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic", as well as how to think for themselves.
Proverbs 22:6 says: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
And look, I completely understand that Proverbs 22:6 addresses the spiritual training God commands parents to provide for their children.
However, we must realize the world wants your kids for eight hours a day so they can shape their thinking and spiritual worldview. They will teach them evolution, sexual confusion, and moral relativism. They will teach them to value feelings over Bible truth. They will mock the Bible as just another book written by man.
The blessing of homeschooling is that you control the worldview. You can teach your children that God created everything, that His Word is absolute truth, and that Jesus Christ is the only way.
Homeschooling isn't just about teaching subjects – it's about disciplining little souls.
Will you make mistakes? Yep.
Will there be hard days? There sure will be.
But you can count on the Holy Spirit to guide you, and you can trust that God will honor your faithfulness.
The best children's ministry on this earth is not a church program, a summer camp, or a VBS to send your kids to. The best children's ministry is a mother who loves spending time with her own children.
Your children don't need perfection. They need parents who love God, love them, and will invest the time to train them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
For any doubting mommas out there. It's high-time you stopped doubting yourself and started trusting God in what He has called you to do.
