Hair Is the Covering: What 1 Corinthians 11 Really Says About Men and Women

Hair Is the Covering: What 1 Corinthians 11 Really Says About Men and Women

The Truth Modern Churches Won't Tell You

This is hard for our upside-down world to hear, but God's Word is crystal clear about His design for men and women. While churches argue about hats and scarves, they're missing what 1 Corinthians 11 actually says.

"But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering." - 1 Corinthians 11:15

Hair IS the Covering - It's That Simple

Here's a novel theological idea: let's just read and believe what the Bible actually says.

The Bible gives us two easy phrases to understand:

  • Hair is glory
  • Hair is a covering

There are two types of hair mentioned in 1 Corinthians 11: short hair and long hair. That's the contrast God is making between men and women.

"For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man." - 1 Corinthians 11:7

God's Created Order Isn't Outdated

"But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God." - 1 Corinthians 11:3

There's an order of authority here that existed before the Fall. This wasn't sin's result - it was God's perfect design from Creation.

"For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man." - 1 Corinthians 11:8-9

This appeals directly to God's Creation account. Man was formed first, woman was created from his rib as his help meet.

The World Has Lost Its Mind

This sick society refuses to honor God's design. We've got:

  • Men trying to be women
  • Women trying to be men
  • Complete confusion about something God made crystal clear

"Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head." - 1 Corinthians 11:4-5

The covering? Long hair for women, short hair for men. It's an outward symbol showing God's created order.

Stop Looking for Loopholes

Why does this Laodicean church always ask the wrong questions? "How long does it have to be?"

Instead of looking for ways around God's Word, why don't you just ask God how He would have you honor His design?

You don't need a hat, scarf, or doily. You need to honor God's distinction between men and women through the hair He gave you.

God's Design Is Beautiful

When Christian men and women understand this distinction and stay in their lanes, the world sees something different. They see God's order in action.

  • Men: Be the godly leaders God called you to be
  • Women: Be the help meets God designed you to be - not captured slaves, but honored partners

"For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church." - Ephesians 5:23

This isn't about superiority or inferiority. Both are made in God's image. But God gave different roles that complement each other perfectly.

The Bottom Line

God made male and female. There's a distinction in how we think, how we look, and how we function. Our opinion on the matter shouldn't matter.

The outward symbols - long hair for women, short hair for men - show glory unto God. It doesn't save you, but it's certainly a way to honor God with the truth.
