God's Invisible Hand: 3 Ways He Works Behind the Scenes

God's Invisible Hand: 3 Ways He Works Behind the Scenes

Have you ever felt like God was absent in your struggles? The Book of Esther reveals something profound about how divine providence operates – even when God seems nowhere to be found.

The Mystery of God's Absence

In Esther chapter 2, King Ahasuerus remembers his former queen, Vashti, who had disobeyed his command years earlier:

"After these things, when the wrath of king Ahasuerus was appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her." (Esther 2:1, KJV)

What appears to be a king's casual reminiscing becomes the catalyst for events that would save an entire nation. Yet no one—not even the king himself—realizes God is orchestrating every detail.

3 Ways God Works Behind the Scenes

1. Through "Coincidences" That Aren't Coincidental

The king rules over exactly 127 provinces (Esther 1:1) – the exact same number as Sarah's age when she died (Genesis 23:1). This mathematical precision reveals God's fingerprints on circumstances that appear random. Both numbers mark significant moments in Jewish history: Sarah's death led to the first permanent possession in the Promised Land, while the 127 provinces became the stage for Jewish deliverance.

2. Through People's Choices – Even Selfish Ones

When King Ahasuerus declares, "Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king" (Esther 2:2, KJV), he's thinking only of his own pleasure:

"And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so." (Esther 2:4, KJV)

Yet God uses the king's self-centered decision to position Esther—a Jewish woman—to save her people. Our choices, however flawed, can become instruments in God's master plan.

3. Through Patience When Problems Brew Unseen

While the king is busy searching for a new queen, a deadly threat against the Jews is developing beneath the surface. God isn't frantically reacting – He's already positioned Esther and Mordecai exactly where they need to be.

How To Live With Confidence When You Can't See God Working

  1. Let circumstances unfold rather than forcing outcomes. Sometimes the best solution is waiting for God's timing rather than "grabbing the bull by the horns."
  2. Hold plans loosely. Ask yourself: "Am I open to God redirecting my plans, or am I determined to see things through my way?"
  3. Focus on pleasing God rather than self-gratification. Unlike the king, make decisions based on what honors God rather than what satisfies immediate desires.

Remember: "Wake up every morning, look in the mirror, and smile and say – you know what, I'm not that important. God is!" When you face uncertainty, take comfort knowing God's invisible hand is at work, weaving circumstances into His perfect plan.
