Finding Strength in God's Promises | Joshua 1:9

Finding Strength in God's Promises | Joshua 1:9

One of the most powerful encouragements in the Bible is found in the book of Joshua. As Joshua prepared to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, God spoke these words to him:

Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Joshua knew that his strength and courage came from the Lord, not from his own ability. The knowledge that God was with him was a constant reminder that whatever challenges he would face, the Lord would be there to give him strength.

The command to "be strong and of good courage" appears 4 times in Joshua chapter 1. This repetition emphasizes its importance. God wasn't suggesting Joshua be courageous; He was commanding it.

Why? Because courage is a choice.

We can choose to focus on our personal doubts and fears, or on God's faithfulness and promise to never leave us or forsake us.

If you've been saved by the blood of the crucified one, you can count on the indwelt Holy Spirit to be with you in whatever battle, trial, or uncomfortable circumstance you're facing. As a child of God, you don't face life alone. Remember, the same God who promised to be with Joshua promises to be with you.

Choose courage today. Not because the path ahead is easy, but because the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
