Distracted to Death

Distracted to Death

Time. God gave it to you. What are you doing with it?

The Psalmist cried out, "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." (Psalm 90:12) Moses wasn't making small talk with God when he wrote that. He was a man staring down the brevity of life, begging the Lord to make every day count. Every second that passes is gone forever, and eternity is watching how you spend it.

Time well spent. Every other goal you have sits underneath that one. You can build a business, raise a family, preach a thousand sermons — but if you're burning through your days on the wrong things, none of it holds up when you stand before God.

When's the last time you stopped and actually measured how you're spending your life? Most people haven't. And the world you're living in makes sure you never do.

Everything is competing for your attention. It's designed to keep you from thinking. That's not an accident. The devil doesn't need to take you out. He just needs you occupied. Keep a believer distracted long enough and he'll burn through his days and stand before God with empty hands.

Don't be that man.

Sit down before the Lord. Get quiet. Ask Him honestly — "Father, is this how You would have me spend the life You've given me?" Most men never get still long enough to ask it. Don't let that be your eulogy.
