Clothed with the Righteousness of Christ
When the repentant prodigal son returned home, he received the best robe from his father. As a matter of fact, the Bible says his father "put it on him".
Luke 15:22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
Job refers to righteousness as clothing.
Job 29:14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.
Isaiah refers to righteousness as the garment of salvation and the robe of righteousness.
Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
The book of Romans refers to righteousness as the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
The book of Titus warns us that no one can clothe themselves with their own righteousness.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
The Lord loved us enough to take our sin upon his own body on the cross, so that we could receive His imputed righteousness by grace through faith.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
This is the power of the gospel!
