Are You Spiritually Dead or Alive?

Your Heart Reveals Everything
Do you go through the religious motions but feel spiritually empty inside? You're not alone. In Mark 3, Jesus exposed the Pharisees' fatal mistake - a devastating truth that still haunts churches today.
The Man with the Withered Hand
"And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand." - Mark 3:1
This man represents every person caught in dead religion. Everything else worked fine - his feet, legs, arms, head - but one thing was withered - his hand. Just like the Pharisees, who had all their religious practices in order but possessed withered hearts.
Dead Religion vs. Living Faith
The Pharisees thought they were serving God. They followed the law, performed the sacrifices, kept the feasts. But they had lost their love for God. All they had left was cold, dead religion.
When Jesus healed the man's hand, watch their response:
"And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him." - Mark 3:6
Instead of rejoicing in God's mercy, they plotted murder. That's what dead religion does - it turns you into a fault-finder who misses God's work entirely.
The Simple Test of Obedience
Jesus said six words to the man: "Stretch forth thine hand." The man obeyed immediately, and "his hand was restored whole as the other." - Mark 3:5
Obedience is the very best way to show that you believe.
Too many people today would spend hours researching on the internet instead of simply obeying God's Word. We trust Amazon reviews more than we trust the Creator of the universe.
Don't Be a Pharisaical Fault-Finder
The Pharisees were professional critics. They found something wrong with everything and everyone - except themselves.
Here's the truth: If you look hard enough, you can find fault with anyone. But that means we all have issues that need fixing. So why not start with yourself?
"For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother." - Mark 3:35
Are You a Dead Branch or Living Vine?
Picture a tree branch that's been broken off. It may look fine for a while, but eventually the leaves wither because it's disconnected from the source of life.
You will wither without Christ. But when you're connected to Him through genuine obedience and love, you'll bear fruit that honors God.
The Choice Is Yours
Dead religion focuses on:
- Following rules to earn God's favor
- Finding fault with others
- External appearances
- Self-righteousness
Living relationship produces:
- Joy from knowing you're loved
- Immediate, sweet obedience
- Genuine love for God and others
- Spiritual fruit
Don't settle for religious motions when God offers you real life. Stop pointing fingers at others and examine your own heart. Are you truly connected to Christ, or are you just going through dead religious routines?
If you obey God immediately and sweetly, you will be blessed spiritually. You'll have joy instead of guilt, and you'll become a blessing to others instead of a burden.
