A Small Beginning Was Never the Problem

Tic-tac-toe on three squares gets old fast. Nine spaces, one predictable draw after another.

Stretch that same idea out to fifteen squares, five in a row to win, and it turns into a different game entirely. The rule barely changed. The room to play in did.

That's worth remembering when something in your life looks too small to matter. A mustard seed is about as small as a seed gets. Christ said it's "less than all the seeds that be in the earth" (Matthew 13:32). But give it room to grow, and it becomes a tree big enough for birds to nest in its branches.

The growth mostly comes through connection. A believer walking alone can only go so far. Put him in a body of believers, all working together, all building each other up, and Paul said the whole thing grows and edifies itself in love (Ephesians 4:16). One man on his own is a small board. The church is the fifteen-by-fifteen.

So don't measure what God's doing in you by how small it looks today. Small beginnings were never the problem in Scripture. God's just never been in a hurry to impress anybody with the size of the seed.
