A Man Who Loves the Law Doesn’t Use It to Hurt People

Look at what the scribes and Pharisees said in John 8:4: “Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.”

Stop on that phrase. In the very act. You can commit a lot of sins by yourself, but adultery isn’t one of them. Somebody else was in that room. Yet they dragged one person into the temple and let the other walk. They quoted Moses while they did it, and Moses never said that. Leviticus 20:10 puts the adulterer and the adulteress under the same sentence. These men knew the law well enough to lie with it.

Verse 6 tells you why: “This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him.” The woman was never the point. She was bait, and they were after Jesus. That’s how it goes with religious folks who have a plan before they have a problem. They’ll use your sin to get to somebody else, and they won’t care a bit whether you live or die.

We can fall into the same thing. We can pick out a verse and swing it at somebody to win an argument, and that’s abusing the Word of God no matter how "sound" it "sounds". A man who loves the law doesn’t use it to hurt people.

Before you open your Bible on somebody, ask yourself whether you want them restored or you want a win. The Lord stooped down. He took the lowest place in the room so He could lift up the lowest person in it. Hold the Word of God the way He held it.

The Lord stooped down for a reason, and the dust He put His finger in tells you why. Listen to the entire message below:
