A Loyal Flock Will Follow You Anywhere
They don’t ask where it leads. Sheep will follow a shepherd they trust through any gate he opens. Which is exactly why a shepherd has to watch himself.
It happens in churches and it happens in homes. People get loyal, and the one leading them gets comfortable. The preaching gets thinner, the patience gets shorter, and he figures they’ll stay anyhow because they love him.
Peter told the elders how to handle a flock: “Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind” (1 Peter 5:2). Lucre is gain, and gain isn’t always money. Sometimes it’s comfort. Sometimes it’s being looked up to.
If your people trust you, put that trust to work for them. Study harder, pray longer, and make the road to the Lord plainer, even when it costs you more than it costs them. Those are His sheep. You’re only keeping them until the Chief Shepherd appears.
