A Lost Man Doesn’t Need More Evidence

Somebody you love is far from the Lord, and you keep thinking that if you could just show him one more thing, he’d come around.

Look at John 8. Jesus stood in the temple and said, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” The Pharisees answered that a man can’t testify for himself, and by their law they were right. So Jesus gave them witnesses. The Father testified of Him. John the Baptist, whom the Pharisees had sent their own men to question, pointed at Jesus and said, “Behold the Lamb of God.” And the scrolls sitting in their synagogue had Isaiah calling the Servant a light to the Gentiles.

They had more evidence than you or I will ever put in front of anybody. Jesus even told them in John 5, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” They had all of it, and they went back into the dark.

When somebody says he needs more proof, he is usually dodging what’s already in front of him.

So the better question for a lost friend is what he plans to do with the light he’s already been given. Ask it gently. That’s the question those Pharisees were left holding, and every lost man has to answer it sooner or later.

The Pharisees had every witness there was and still walked back into the dark. Listen to the entire message here:
