4 Simple Steps to Share the Gospel Like Jesus

4 Simple Steps to Share the Gospel Like Jesus

Although most Christians struggle with witnessing, there is no reason to freeze up when there's an opportunity to share your faith.

Here are the 4 steps Jesus used that you can apply today:

Step 1: Be Present Among People

Jesus didn't wait for sinners to come to Him. Matthew 9:35 tells us "Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom."

Your action: Get out of your comfort zone. Go where lost people are - coffee shops, community events, your workplace, the public square. Remember, you can't seek the lost from your living room. It's time to get off the coach!

Step 2: Approach with Compassion

When Jesus "saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd" (Matthew 9:36).

Your action: See people as Jesus sees them - lost sheep needing a shepherd, not enemies to defeat. When someone says "I'm good," respond with understanding, not frustration. Remember: you were once lost too. Get prayed up about your compassionate approach!

Step 3: Never Get Sidetracked

In John 3, Nicodemus asks Jesus questions about being his physical birth. Instead of getting lost in biological explanations, Jesus stays focused on the spiritual new birth: "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again" (John 3:7).

Your action: When questions arise, give brief answers and return to the spiritual new birth found in the Gospel. Don't let rabbit trails derail the main message. Use simple illustrations they can understand.

Step 4: Include Repentance

Jesus began His ministry with this word: "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:17). Paul preached "repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 20:21).

Your action: Help people understand they're sinners who need a Savior. Repentance isn't cleaning up your life first - it's recognizing you can't and turning to Christ for salvation.

Christ's Witnessing in Action

With Nicodemus (John 3): Religious man gets sidetracked with questions. Jesus stays focused on being "born again."

With the Woman at the Well (John 4): Questions about water don't derail Jesus from offering "living water" that satisfies forever.

The Pattern: Listen briefly, answer compassionately, return to the Gospel.

Your Weekly Challenge

This week, practice these 4 steps:

  1. Go somewhere lost people gather
  2. Show genuine compassion for their struggles
  3. Keep conversations Gospel-focused when opportunities arise
  4. Include the need for repentance in your message

Remember: "So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase" (1 Corinthians 3:7). You plant and water - God does the saving.

Luke 19:10 reminds us why: "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."
