23 Sins in Romans 1 That Prove You Can't Fix Yourself
The List God Gave That Destroys Human Pride
Romans 1:29-32 contains a devastating list of 23 sins that fill the human heart. Not some people. Not bad people. All people who push God away.
"Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful."
Why You Can't Stop Sinning
When Israel begged God to remove the serpents that were killing them, He said no. Instead: "Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live" (Numbers 21:8).
The message? Sin isn't leaving this world. Stop trying to exterminate it. You need rescue, not reform.
The Verdict That Hurts
"Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them" (Romans 1:32).
People know they're wrong, yet sin anyway. That's human nature without God.
The Only Solution
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth" (Romans 1:16).
Just as Moses lifted up the serpent, "even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:14-15).
Stop trying to be good enough–you'll never measure up. Stop tryting to fix and reform yourself–you can't fix yourself. The only solution to the sin problem is to look to Christ and live.
