10 False Views of the New Apostolic Reformation
The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is one of the fastest-growing false Christian movements in America. To help warn and teach the body of Christ, I've put together 10 of their major doctrinal errors.
- Apostolic Authority: The NAR believes that God has restored the office of the apostles as the true spiritual leaders of the New Testament Church. They believe the modern-day apostle has special power given them by God, which puts them over evangelists, pastors and teachers.
- Dominion Theology: The NAR believes in a form of dominion theology, where Christians are called to take control and dominion over society's 7 main spheres of influence. This is known as the 7 Mountain Mandate. They embrace the 7MM as a way to establish God's kingdom on earth before the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ. They have dangerously conflated spiritual and political power, as well as spiritual vs physical dominion.
- Extra-Biblical Revelation: The NAR believes that their modern-day apostles and prophets are receiving direct revelations from God. Not only does this false-belief undermine the absolute authority and sufficiency of Scripture, but it single-handedly redefines the Christians' great commission of winning souls for Jesus to political takeover.
- Spiritual Warfare Practices: The NAR has redefined what a Christian's spiritual battles should be. For example, if there are problems in a city, they believe it’s because of a demonic spirit's influence. They falsely claim that they can heal the area. Their solution is to put forth their prophets and apostles to get rid of the demons. They will use terms like "strategic-level spiritual warfare" and "spiritual mapping". This is an unbiblical and harmful belief.
- False-Prosperity Gospel: The NAR incorporates a covertly hidden, false prosperity gospel into their teachings. They believe that if you elect the right people into political office and pass the right laws, we are GUARANTEED God's earthly blessings on earth. This is an idolatrous message that turns our Lord Jesus Christ into a means to an end. In other words, they want Jesus for his earthly blessing, not as the Lord and Savior of their lives.
- Kingdom Now Theology: The NAR believes that the Kingdom of God can be fully established on earth through human effort, which is entirely unbiblical. An excellent resource concerning the many doctrinal errors in Kingdom Now Theology is written by Andy Wood. It's called: "The Coming Kingdom: What Is the Kingdom and How Is Kingdom Now Theology Changing the Focus of the Church?"
- Signs and Wonders: Instead of offering sound expository Bible teaching, the NAR places emphasis on miraculous manifestations, and signs, wonders, and miracles. Many use the curriculum put out by Bethel. Many incorporate "Healing Rooms", where people are set free and launched into their destiny. Some emphasize self-healing through crystals. Many include faith healers and deliverance ministries, which will use phrases like "restore the city through healing."
- Ecumenical Concerns: The NAR's approach to unity across denominational lines is very dangerous. They are masters at leading people astray by teaching them to prioritize shared experiences over doctrinal agreement. This has led countless people to false doctrine.
- Traditional Church Structures: Because the NAR is confused over what the biblical requirements are for an apostle and prophet, they dismiss the traditional church structure of pastors, teachers, deacons, elders, and evangelists.
- Spiritual Pride: The NAR's emphasis on special revelation and authority for its apostles brings with it a sense of spiritual pride. It's the "we've got some special spiritual truth that you don't" mentality. The fact is, they have no special truth. They've been deceived by the devil and are very confused about how to rightly divide the word of truth. As a matter of fact, their favorite Bible verse is on that is out of context.
Finally, the NAR is not an organized denomination with a list of official churches and members. As a result, beliefs will vary among its adherents. And although they may put themselves off as having great power and authority, they are essentially very spiritually weak people. The solution for them is in the miraculous power of the gospel!
1 Corinthians 1:19-21 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
